/// Physiology and experimental medicine of the heart and muscles

Presentation

The laboratory of Physiology and experimental medicine of the heart and muscles, PhyMedExp, is a joint research unit (INSERM, CNRS, University of Montpellier) created on January 1, 2011. It is a multidisciplinary unit federated around the physiology and pathophysiology of contractile tissues (cardiac, smooth and striated muscles), and their interactions with their environment. It brings together more than 150 people divided into 6 teams and develops a research strategy ranging from elementary structures (genes and proteins) to the whole organism, including cells and tissues.

The main objectives of the unit are to identify, through an integrative approach, the molecular mechanisms associated with muscle function in normal or pathological conditions (cardiovascular, hereditary, acquired and iatrogenic muscle diseases, respiratory, digestive).

The great strength of PhyMedExp is to combine basic research and translational research for the benefit of the patient, a challenge facilitated by its location on the site of the CHRU Arnaud de Villeneuve in Montpellier, and the interaction in each team of basic researchers with clinical researchers and their associated clinical services.
